  1. It is very important for managers in any field to be empathetic towards his/her subordinates, customers, and fellow business partners. The above video explains the origin of where many species develops empathy and how humans have built upon this very primal instinct through out time.

Human beings have a very instinctual need to feel apart of something and as a result become very attuned to what one another is feeling and react accordingly. If one member of the group suffers or experiences happiness, the others will either mirror this emotion or develop an adverse reaction. Therefore, managers need to be acutely aware of how their actions, and the companies actions will affect his/her subordinates.

For example, if a manager scolds one of his/her subordinates in front of their co-workers, the other co-workers will in turn, either feel sympathetic towards their friend, or begin to feel fearful that the same thing will happen to them, ultimately creating a very hostile work environment. Neither of these things will end up benefiting the company.

Furthermore, it is important for the manager to be empathetic regarding the employees work conditions, work load, and even religious preferences. It is important to show sympathy with these issues to develop a solid and professional relationship with his/her employees grounded in respect for one another. For example, if an employee has a death in the family and needs to take time off from work, then the manager needs to respect these wishes to show equality through empathy.
